Canal Mercer Designs part of Pratt Design Incubator
Canal Mercer Designs has had homes in a lot of different places from the Bay Area, to London, to Hong Kong, and then to Austin. And after some wandering around, we came back home to New York.
It’s been an interesting experience. In the past year, we’ve grown a bit and as a result have needed a new home. Finding space in the New York Metro area is challenging at best and we are super particular. We wanted a place with some community to keep us inspired, lock down privacy for our hush hush clientele, and a shop where we can get messy with prototyping.
Yes, people laughed when we told them what we wanted and what we were able to pay for it. “Keep dreaming! “, they’d said.
Well, we’re more than just a bunch of dreamers, we’re also resourceful, dedicated, and a lot lucky.
When we were introduced to the lovely folks at Pratt’s Design Incubator (http://incubator.pratt.edu/), we fell in love with the space instantly. After a couple of chats, we realised that it would be a great fit in so many other ways too. There’s still a bit of building happening and soon, we will be moving to our new home.
It’s worth mentioning that this photo is from my mobile and has not been altered in any way. Would you believe that it is even more beautiful in person?
